What if I told you that the key to being more efficient and consistent in your business focus is not just how much time we spend on a certain task; it’s also about where our attention goes after finishing one project or action? The answer lies with what’s called “time blocking.” This post gives tips for effectively using this technique so as always don’t forget these secrets when making forward progress today!
What is Time Blocking?
Time blocking is a great way to stay organized and get more done in less time. By setting aside specific blocks of time throughout your day for focusing on particular tasks, you can be assured that these are the only things taking up space during those designated periods—plus they’ll feel satisfying as well!
Getting Started
Step 1: Determine the hours you have available to work in the upcoming week
With time blocking, you can create a business schedule that fits into your life. You’ll want to determine the hours of work available for each week so as not to get too overwhelmed or inconvenienced by picking up another job just because it suits what little free-time there seems to be these days.
Step 2: List everything you want to achieve during the week
Make a list of all activities and projects for this coming week. Include meetings, calls with clients or employees in addition to daily tasks that need completing.
Step 3: Block out fixed appointments
Start by blocking out your fixed appointments in the format that works best for you. You can either schedule time blocks on an actual calendar, or if bullet journaling is more of your thing then create a spread with just one day’s worth at once and move each block around as needed.
Step 4: Add in recurring tasks & other routines
In order to make sure that you’re always available for your clients and customers, it’s important to block out time in between meetings and also add recurring tasks like lunch or exercise. If there are certain things on a daily basis (lunch sometimes falls within my blocked off period) then I’ll create an event called “Everyday Routine” which will happen every day at 12pm sharp!
Step 5: Fill in your remaining time blocks.
You should be able to see all the sections that are left over, and they will vary depending on what project you’re working on at any given moment – but for simplicity’s sake I like keeping these high level (for example including one large block for business development).
In this time of hustle and bustle, it’s important to make sure your life is balanced. We would love the opportunity to help you do just that by providing a free download for our Time Blocking Tracker in exchange for reading! The tool will allow you to take control over how much time you spend on different projects each day so that one task does not carry over into another or keep you from doing anything else at all. You can start with 10 minutes per day, but we promise once you see the difference it makes in your productivity and efficiency, you may never go back! This method allows us to be more consistent when making forward progress–which ultimately leads to better results.
