The thought of making a reel is probably intimidating to some of you, but today I am going to share some tools that I truly believe will empower you to make reels, if this is not something you currently do for your business. Some of you may even be reading this thinking, “What is a reel?” A reel is basically a feature on Instagram that allows you to upload video clips that are up to 90 seconds long. You can edit these clips as well, by adding in sounds or even taking clips out that you may not want. These short clips allow you to publish creative content, show off your personality, and even market your brand, or even just have fun!
Now that we have covered what a reel is, let’s touch on the purpose of a reel:
- First and foremost, we want our reels to be entertaining. If our reel is catchy, people will want to take a minute or two to watch it. Which is what we want!
- Next, we want our reels to encourage and inspire. If someone spends a minute or two watching our reel and they walk away ready to face their day, then our reel did exactly what it was meant to do.
- We want our reels to educate. Our reels should educate the viewer on what it is that we do, and what our brand is about.
- Our reels should make people feel like they know us. When people watch your reel, they should walk away feeling like they made a connection with you!
The great thing about reels is that they allow us to show off our personality. People can read content all day long, but it doesn’t truly give them the opportunity to get to know YOU. Also, when using reels, you get the opportunity to show your viewers your brand, versus just telling them about it.
Lastly, it increases your reach. Most people are more likely to watch a reel than they are to stop and read a post. Reels will help increase your overall brand awareness on social media.
Now, let’s look at some interesting stats and facts about reels:
- 2 billion people interact with reels every month
- It is projected that Instagram will have 2.5 billion monthly active users in 2023. (This also means that 2.5 billion people will engage with the reels feature in 2023)

Reels truly give you a great way to reach out to your customers in a more personal and creative way! You have up to 90 seconds to share with your audience who you are and what you do, in a way that just writing a post cannot convey.
So, remember, reels may seem daunting at first, but they truly are a great tool, and something you can do!
